New Release

Sheriff Montgomery reports that on December 20, 2013 @ approximately 2:40 PM Deputy Will Doughty responded to a possible accident, where a pick-up had wrecked into a ditch and had hit a sign on State HWY 9 & 10.  Before he could arrive dispatch advised him that another caller stated that the pick-up had gotten out of the ditch and left traveling north and had turned onto Hwy 216.  Deputy Doughty observed the pick-up on Hwy 216 as it was approaching a curve the pick-up crossed the center line, also he came back and crossed the fog line.  Also Deputy Doughty noticed one of the brake lights was out on the pick-up.  At that time Deputy Doughty initiated his blue lights and stopped the pick-up.

Deputy Doughty made contact with the driver (Carl McConnell, 53 years old of Ada Valley).  Deputy Doughty advised him why he stopped him and Mr. McConnell stated that he was tired.  Deputy Doughty asked him if he had been drinking and he stated, yes, he had stopped in Hot Springs and bought two big cans of beer and had drank them.  At that time Deputy Doughty asked Mr. McConnell to step out of the pick-up, Mr. McConnell couldn’t do any field sobriety test due to a bad back.  During a pat down Deputy Doughty felt what he thought to be a pill bottle in Mr. McConnell’s in his pocket.  Deputy Doughty asked him what that was and if he minded pulling it out, Mr. McConnell stated that he had marijuana in it.  Deputy Doughty asked if he had anything else, Mr. McConnell stated that he had a pipe between his seats in the pick-up and some more marijuana in the dash of the pick-up.

Mr. McConnell was transported to St. Vincent’s hospital in Morrilton where they drew blood to test for blood alcohol content and marijuana content in his system.

Mr. McConnell was cited for Careless and prohibited driving; possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
