On January 19, 2017 at approximately 2:53 PM, Dillon Barrett of Perryville went to #39 Cedar Hollow Lane in Perryville and was stealing the property owner’s pick-up and attempted to steal his camper as well.
The owner Robert Missal heard his dogs barking and went outside to see what they were barking at. He stated that he saw a white male in his 20’s walking up his driveway. Missal got the man’s attention and asked him what he was doing and advised him that he was trespassing. Barrett told him that he was staying over there, pointing towards west of Missal’s property. Missal told him that he could cross the back of the property along Deltic timber’s property line. Missal went back into his house. A few minutes later he heard his dogs barking again, he looked back outside and saw Barrett exiting his pick-up. Missal went back outside and asked Barrett what he was doing. Barrett approached Missal and acted like he was going to shake his hand, instead Barrett grabbed Missal’s right arm and pulled him towards him, at that time they both stumbled and fell to the ground. Missal stated that Barrett was trying to get his keys, so he threw them under the ramp on his porch. Barrett was able to get away from Missal, went to the ramp and got the keys, jumped into Missal’s pick-up and took off driving backwards towards his camper and attempted to hook his camper up. At that time Missal called 911.
The pick-up was spotted by Perryville Police Officer Robert McGhee and Sheriff Scott Montgomery travelling east on B Street. Officer McGhee and Sheriff Montgomery activated the emergency lights and siren in attempt to stop the vehicle, at which time Barrett fled. The pursuit went from B Street onto State Hwy 9 and 10 south, Barrett then turned onto Union Valley Road where he stopped and surrendered. Barrett was arrested without further incident.
Barrett was charged with Robbery (class B felony), Theft of Property (class B felony), Fleeing, Running a Stop Sign, Careless and Prohibited Driving, and Driving on a Suspended License, he is being held in the Perry County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. |
