Arrests made in burglary of dead man’s home
Arrests made in burglary of dead man’s home
Two persons have been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred in a home where the body of a dead man was discovered.
The Perry County 911 center received a call at 1:37 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2. The caller said a body was in a house on Wye Mountain and the house had been burglarized.
Officers responded and discovered the body of Greg Carter, 62. Perry County Sheriff Scott Montgomery said it appeared the burglar may have discovered the body during the course of a crime.
Montgomery said Steve Isborn, 26, of the Higginbothem community in Pulaski County off Highway 10 near Williams Junction, was arrested Aug. 26 and is being charged with residential burglary, theft of property, and abuse of a corpse. Physical evidence left at the dead man’s residence led officers to Isborn, the sheriff said. When he was arrested, jewelry, knives, rifle scopes, household windows, and vehicle tires taken from the residence were recovered in Isborn’s truck.
Also charged in the same case is Gunner Barnes, 26, of Houston, who led officers on a vehicle chase on Friday in a stolen SUV. Barnes is being charged with residential burglary and theft of property.
The sheriff said the case was being investigated by Sgt. Keenan Carter and Chief Deputy John Nichols.
The sheriff said officers do not suspect foul play in the homeowner’s death.
