On June 20, 2018 our dispatch received a call at approximately 4:30PM about a possible intoxicated person driving on Highway 10 towards Perryville. They were described to be driving a red 1990’s model GMC truck with a blue tail gate that had Chevrolet on it. The caller stated the vehicle had been swerving all over the road. Deputy Barrett Smith spotted the vehicle on Highway 10. He observed the left brake light was out so he initiated his emergency lights. He made contact with the driver a Mr. Mitchell Slaughter. He noticed a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Mr. Slaughter and his vehicle. Deputy Smith also observed he had red, glassy eyes and his speech was slurred. Deputy Smith also observed an open can of beer sitting to the right of him in his seat. He asked Mr. Slaughter to step out of the vehicle and he complied. Deputy Smith asked Mr. Slaughter if he had been drinking to which he replied that he had been. Deputy Smith asked Mr. Slaughter if he would be willing to submit to field sobriety testing and he replied that he would. Mr. Slaughter failed the sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to the Perry County Detention Center. |
