Deputies continue to focus on the drug problem in Perry County


On July 17, 2019 Deputies made a traffic stop that lead to Perry County’s newest Deputy (K-9) performing a K9 sniff of the vehicle. He alerted on the driver’s side front and rear doors as well as the gas lid. A further search of the vehicle found the driver had a scheduled III drug in her purse and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and on her person.  The driver Twanna Tackett of Houston was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.


On July 20, 2019 Deputies stopped a Jammie Benson of Clinton, AR for following to close. Benson had warrants out of Ward Police Dept. as incident to arrest an inventory of her vehicle was made and Benson was in possession of a syringe and two meth pipes.      Benson was arrested and charged with; following to close, 3 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on suspended, no insurance, and no seat belt.


On July 21, 2019 around 2:29 AM while on routine patrol Deputies found a 2014 Chrysler 200 parked at the Houston Assembly of God Church. The vehicle’s identification number (V.I.N.) was ran and found to be stolen out of Malvern Police Dept. The vehicle was processed, and towed, further investigation is pending.


On July 23, 2019 around 1:22 PM Deputies responded to a domestic call on Wye Mtn. A sister walked in on her brother smoking marijuana while her children was in the next room. An argument between the two lead to the brother hitting the sister in the mouth. Upon arrival the brother had left but the Deputy observed the brother driving on Underwood Road. Deputy Story made contact with Charles Cherry, 33 years old of Bigelow and arrested him for Domestic Battery 3rd Degree.


On July 23, 2019 A concerned citizen’s phone call leads to drug arrest: After making contact with the vehicle, the driver was Gordon Ellison of 15 Mockingbird, Houston, AR. nor him or his passenger had a valid drivers license. Deputy asked for consent to search based off the information dispatch had received. Ellison first said no and when he heard that the K9 was in route then he granted consent. Gordon was arrested on 8 counts of drug paraphernalia, 2 counts of possession of controlled substance (marijuana and methamphetamines), he was also charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and no drivers license.
