On Friday September 24, 2021, shortly after midnight Assistant Jail Administrator Abby Strange had just finished her shift. Strange then assisted inmate Sandra Rappold in leaving the detention center. Strange had turned off the audio to the door alarm, furnished Rappold with her jail keys to where she could open her pod door. Then Rappold left with Strange in her vehicle. Dispatcher on duty noticed the door ajar notification on the monitor to the women's pod and notified the jailer. The jailer inspected the women's pod and found Rappold missing. The dispatcher immediately notified the jail administer, who notified Chief Deputy Bill Finley and Sheriff Scott Montgomery. Both Chief Deputy and Sheriff responded to the detention center, upon their arrival both Strange and Rappold had been apprehended and returned to the detention center by Deputy John Wilson and Officer Todd Bonds. While Strange and Rappold were out, Strange furnished Rappold with a vape containing marijuana.
Strange has been terminated and arrested, she has been charged with: Impairing the operation of a vital public facility, a class C felony; Permitting Escape in the First Degree, a class C felony; Furnishing, possessing, or using prohibited articles, a class C felony.
Rappold has been charged with Third Degree escape, a class C felony
