Destracted Driver Avoids Fleeing Charges

On Feb. 15, 2022, at approximately 5:30PM while working patrol on State Hwy 9 Deputy Sonny Clifford when he observed a pick-up traveling at a high rate of speed. He activated his radar unit; the pick-up was indeed speeding, 67mph in a 55mph zone. Deputy Clifford activated his blue lights and siren, the vehicle did not stop. After a short pursuit the vehicle finally came to an abrupt stop. For the deputies' safety the driver was ordered out of the vehicle, placed on the ground and put in restraints.

After further investigation it was determined that the driver was not fleeing but had their radio very loud and did not see the blue lights or hear the siren. I'm putting this story out there hoping to get folks to be more alert to their surroundings and not only stop when law enforcement is attempting to stop them but to yield to all emergency vehicles.
